Granite Worktops northampton
Granite is the hardest natural product on earth after diamond, sapphire and ruby. When polished, granite will maintain its high gloss finish indefinitely. Granite has a natural beauty, individuality and taste of luxury which cannot be reproduced under factory conditions. It has an attractive mottled appearance, comes in a wide range of colours, and is incredibly hard-wearing. Granite is very resistant to heat, stains and water damage, and can be pre-cut to include sink inserts and draining grooves. It is usually supplied polished and very glossy, but you can opt for a honed matt finish.
Granite gives a unique touch of style to your kitchen, as no piece of granite is the same.

Caring for a Granite Worktop
Cleaning: Clean your natural granite worktop with clean warm water or a PH neutral detergent. Wipe clean with a soft cloth and dry with a chamois leather, or suction window cleaner if you have one, to remove any streaks and ensure a shiny finish. Never use abrasive sponges, highly alkaline or scouring detergents, bleach or cleaning solutions with high chlorine content.
The best way to avoid damaging the surface of a granite kitchen worktop is to appreciate its durability – not take advantage of it. In other words, appreciate the fact that an occasional oversight will not harm the worktop but be aware that constant abuse will cause damage Avoid placing hot pots and pans directly onto the surface whenever possible as it is often the sealant and the products used to protect the worktops that can be damaged by heat. Repeated exposure to high temperatures can eventually leave unsightly black marks and the difference in temperature between the hot item and the cold surface of a granite worktop can cause cracks from shock. Generally, granite is heat resistant since it was formed at much higher temperatures than anything out of your oven will ever reach however, it is wise to have a trivet available when cooking to act as a barrier between hot pots and granite surfaces.
Granite worktops are made of granite, a porous igneous type of rock that is made of quartz and feldspar. They are normally scratch- and cut-resistant because of their hard, diamond-like surface. However, with extensive and long-term use, granite worktops can be prone to cuts and scratches. therefore recommend the use of a cutting board to protect the surface and avoid dulling your knives.
Sealing: The frequency and need to seal granite worktops varies depending on the type and colour. Generally the darker granites such as Ubatuba and Tan Brown do not need to be sealed very often because dark stones are denser than the lighter colours. White and lighter coloured granites should be sealed more often - most recommendations would suggest every 4 - 6 months. Good quality sealing products are easily available in most good home improvement retailers. Follow the directions on the container to apply the sealer. Most products require a quick misting over with the product, leaving it to soak in and then wiping away the excess and typically for an average sized area, takes less than thirty minutes.
Between sealing one of the keys to prevent staining is to clean up spills as quickly as possible before liquids have a chance to penetrate the surface.
